Sensitive Skin

Sensitive Skin is one of the most common skin complaints, with around 60% of women and 40% of men claiming they suffer from skin sensitivities. Which is why it's so hard to understand why there are so few good sensitive skin products on the market. Many people with sensitive skin go as far as to say they feel completely excluded from the beauty industry, and many can even feel anxious when trying new products.

What causes sensitive skin?

Unfortunately, the answer is not straightforward.  In this modern world, there are so many environmental irritants that can cause skin sensitivities that we often don’t know what has caused each episode.  From the foods we eat, the skin products we use, household products we clean with and even the air we breathe can cause skin inflammation.  Some people state emotional triggers such such stress and hormones can also play a vital role as well.  The good (and sometimes bad) thing about skin inflammation is that you can see it.  Because of this, you can track your inflammatory triggers much easier than ‘invisible’ inflammation in other parts of the body.  And if you can track your triggers, you can manage them and that’s a good thing.

How do I know if my skin is sensitive?

Don’t worry, your skin will tell you. Redness, itching, flaking, stinging, tightness…are all signs of skin inflammation.

What products should I use?

Whilst everyone's skin relates differently to the products they use, there are many known skin irritants that you can easily avoid as well as anti-inflammatory ingredients you can seek out:

AVOID - Inflammatory skin care ingredients:

Retinoids, Glycolic acid, Sulfates, Strong preservatives, Conventional Soap, Essential Oils & Fragrance (natural or artificial).

INCLUDE - Anti-inflammatory skin care ingredients:

Omegas, Antioxidants, Centella Asiatica, Green Tea, Liquorice, Turmeric, Colloidal Oatmeal

Choose Pro-skin ingredients over 100% natural.

Just because an ingredient is natural, does not make it great for sensitive skin. Remember, the number 1 causes of hay fever is pollen. What you need to look for is ingredients that are ‘pro-skin’.  A great place to find reliable information is the EWG Skin Deep website.  They have a comprehensive database of almost all beauty ingredients that you can search for and find out more.

The biobod approach to sensitive skin

We set out to create pro-skin, intuitive skin care that was safe for the most sensitive skin and could be used by everyone to improve their skin health.

Like most things in nature the human body is intuitive and for the most part does not require too much intervention to look after itself.  Our skin, being our largest organ, is no exception.  Knowing this, our aim was to formulate a range of products to work with your skin not against it.  Rather than focusing on ‘fixing’ skin problems, we aim to rebuild skin resilience.

Every ingredient chosen undoes stringent examination to ensure it supports the three foundations of skin health: a balanced skin microbiome, strong skin barrier function and calmed inflammatory response.

This pro-skin approach, focuses on true foundational skin health and aims to restore skin to a more natural state.

Happiness Guarantee

We understand that trying a new product can be daunting, particularly if you have sensitive skin. If you are not completely happy with your biobod skincare within 30 days, no problem, we will make it right!
