You started as a graphic designer, moved into film production, transitioned to terrariums, and now design landscapes—what has been the common thread connecting all these creative chapters?

I’ve always been drawn to creativity in some form. The common thread throughout my journey has been a deep passion for good design—whether in graphics, film, or landscapes, I love bringing ideas to life in a thoughtful and visually compelling way.

What was the first moment you remember being captivated by plants and nature?

I grew up in Canberra, surrounded by nature, and spent a lot of time bushwalking, sailing, and skiing with my family. Those experiences sparked my curiosity and appreciation for the natural world, and I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with plants in some capacity.

What has working with nature taught you about patience, imperfection, and letting go?

I’ve learned that growth takes time and that the most beautiful landscapes evolve gradually. Nature is inherently imperfect, and I’ve come to embrace that as part of its charm. Letting go of control has allowed me to appreciate the organic process of growth and change—both in gardens and in life.

What’s your creative process when designing a garden? Where do you begin?

It all starts with understanding the space and its surroundings. I spend time observing the site—looking at sunlight, soil conditions, and existing vegetation—before talking with clients to understand their vision. From there, I sketch out ideas, focusing on creating an engaging, functional design that enhances the natural beauty of the space.

Do you have a favourite plant or tree?

I have so many! But right now, I’m loving the Schizolobium parahyba, also known as the Brazilian Tree Fern. I first saw them growing in Bali and have been propagating them from seed ever since. They’re tall and slender, with beautiful, delicate foliage that reminds me of jacaranda leaves.

What’s a garden or outdoor space you’ve visited that left a lasting impact on you?

Fern Gully at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens is one of my favourites. The dense canopy of tree ferns creates a lush, cool microclimate, making it the perfect escape on a hot summer day in the city.

Do you have any daily rituals that help you slow down and reconnect with yourself?

Daily walks with my dog, Cookie, always help me reset. I try and spend time in my own garden every day, whether it’s watering plants or soaking in the hot tub under the stars. It’s my way of slowing down and reconnecting with nature amidst the busyness of life. I’m also currently obsessed with hot Pilates—especially in winter.

If someone wanted to transform a small space into a lush retreat, where should they start?

Start with a few key plants that thrive in your environment. Incorporating vertical elements like wall planters or vines can help maximise space, and layering different foliage textures adds depth. A cosy seating area will make it a space you’ll want to spend time in.

What’s the last book you read?

The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben. It’s a fascinating look at how trees communicate and support each other within ecosystems.

What advice would you give your 17-year-old self?

Wear sunscreen!

Favourite Biobod product?

Barrier Restore Nutrient Oil. It’s lightweight but deeply nourishing, and I love how soft and refreshed my skin feels after a long day outdoors.

And finally, what are you most grateful for today?

The opportunity to work with nature and create spaces that inspire others. Gardens are incredibly healing, and they bring me so much joy.
